Get rid of dry skin on the face

There are many causes of dry skin on the face. It is often due to a weakened skin barrier that can no longer retain moisture properly. This causes our skin to lose moisture and feel rough or sensitive.

1. Genetics: You may have a skin type that is naturally more prone to dryness.
2. Hormonal changes: Fluctuations, such as during pregnancy, menstruation or the menopause, can affect your skin.
3. Age: As we age, our skin produces less lipids and moisture, making it drier.

1. Climate and environment: Cold, dry air or UV radiation can damage our skin.
2. Wrong care products: Aggressive cleansers or creams without moisture exacerbate dryness.
3. Living conditions: Stress, an unhealthy diet or too little water can also affect our skin.

You may have already noticed some of these signs:

• Tightness: Your skin feels tight and uncomfortable at least 30 minutes after washing.
• Roughness and flakiness: Your skin is uneven, flaky or reddened.
• Itching: Dry areas of skin such as your eyelids in particular can react irritably.
• Wrinkles: Dry skin tends to develop small wrinkles more quickly.

When we travelled to Japan, we noticed one thing: People there have smooth and well-groomed skin well into old age. On my last trip, I asked my Japanese friends if they could recommend anything. And after our return, I tried to get a natural Japanese skincare set in Europe to find out for myself what kind of results I could achieve with it. My search in Europe was arduous and rocky - especially for ‘natural’ Japanese skincare. This is one of the main reasons why we decided to start MAYUNO. Japanese skincare routines are not only known for being gentle and effective, but especially for moisturising your skin at every step. You moisturise your skin in a few targeted steps and restore its balance. This routine has worked wonders for my dry skin in particular.

1. Gentle cleansing: Your skin is thoroughly cleansed without drying out. A distinction is made between two different types of cleanser: oil and foam cleansers. Both have their specific applications. Both moisturise your skin in the first step of the routine. In some cases, they are even used in combination - in what is known as ‘double cleansing’. More on this in one of our upcoming blog posts.
2. Coordinated routines: The Japanese skincare lines at MAYUNO consist of perfectly coordinated routines that can be used for a variety of different skin types. If your skin tends to be dry, your routine should contain rich products. If you have dry skin, you can also use oil-based serums and elixirs. If, on the other hand, you have oily skin, you should use creams with a higher water content. You can recognise these by the fact that they are milky to gel-like.

I didn't want to spend ages trying to work out which products with which ingredients I needed to combine in order to achieve my desired result. I was often overwhelmed by the selection of European products: I just wanted something that worked. With Japanese skincare, I discovered how valuable perfectly harmonised skincare routines are - especially when they only contain the ingredients that are really necessary. Since I've been using Japanese skincare, I no longer have any problems with my skin all year round.
