The brand MAKANAI
MAKANAI stands for purity, sustainability and the timeless art of Japanese skincare. The roots of the brand lie in a centuries-old gold foundry in Kanazawa, where the knowledge of natural beauty and ancient craft techniques come together in a special way. With a mysterious beauty recipe based on these traditions, MAKANAI invites you to feel the power of nature in every application.
Over 400 years ago, people began producing filigree gold leaf in Kanazawa, in the western Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa. MAKANAI emerged from the Yoshitaka gold foundry, established in 1899, in the vicinity of this cultural and artistic hotspot, also known as ‘Gold Leaf Valley’. The women who worked there made a remarkable discovery: despite the extremely hot and dry working conditions, their hands remained surprisingly soft and youthful. The secret? A special fermented paste that was used to treat the handmade washi paper which served to separate the gold leaves. This unique blend of natural ingredients laid the foundation for MAKANAI's skincare today.
At the centre of MAKANAI products is the innovative KaESS complex. The patented formula combines the natural powers of persimmon leaves, eggshell membrane and soya sterol to regenerate and deeply moisturise the skin and reduce the signs of ageing. The formulas are not only effective, but also sustainable: MAKANAI uses 100% natural ingredients and relies on animal-free and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes along the entire production chain.
Another highlight is the 24-carat gold leaf contained in some products, which has been proven to promote skin renewal and ensure a radiant complexion. Gold leaf is not only a symbol of luxury, but also a sign of commitment to quality and purity. In a hectic world that is becoming ever faster, MAKANAI invites you to pause for a moment and take care of yourself with mindfulness. These beauty rituals create moments of care and tranquillity, which are particularly valuable in today's world.
